The LiUNA Local 183 Training Centre offers a Utilities program which exposes trainees to work in many aspects of the Utility Sector. In this hands-on program, trainees will work on rebuilding existing, as well as, new cable chambers. This type of work involves exposure to high voltage therefore, trainees should be aware of this prior to starting the program. They will work on street light projects, pole bases torpedo shots (trench less technology), hydro and communication fields.
Training will also include exposing cable prior to digging with equipment. Training in this field can lead to work with many utility companies in the Greater Toronto Area. Most of the work in the Utility Sector is outdoors and is done all year round.
